WOYWW 399

I haven’t been in the studio all week. I’ve had some busy days, and in between I haven’t felt too well with my M.E. so I have rested. I have done a bit more on my embroidery project, and this is the latest piece I have completed:

again using whipped spiderweb stitch which is fast becoming a favourite! I like the focal point with the shi-sha mirror, too, and of course, all the French knots that I really like doing! The red thread in this one is sparkly, but of course it doesn’t show up properly on the photo.

Remember this one from last time?

I have now completed it.

I’ve done a couple more, too, which you can read about in more detail here.

I’ve now done 27 in total, and have only 17 more to go!!

Something else I finished this week… Remember this? It is a mandala I drew on my iPad Pro and have been colouring in at odd moments.

I decided it had been a work in progress for too long, so I completed it.

I did some baking this week, for a couple of events (our monthly informal cancer cake-athon meeting, and a shared lunch at church). I wrote about this in my previous post, here.

Custard tarts, coconut macaroons filled with chocolate ganache and gingerbread biscuits:

and sticky toffee pavlova (my favourite pudding in the whole world!).

Not much else to report except the good news that my pesky wisdom tooth has now settled down completely – no more pain!! I think it’s emerged a tiny bit more than before. I shall probably die of old age before it makes a full appearance!

Here’s Beatrice sitting on my lap.

I tried to get her to look at me, but she wouldn’t. A few minutes earlier, I had Phoebe too, but when I got the camera out, she jumped off. Why are kitties always so contrary?

  1. Happy WOYWW. Well, it certainly looks like you have been really busy. No wonder you have had to rest! Now I am not taking any prescription painkillers I have noticed how I am actually listening to my body and will rest more, rather than just popping some pills and then battling on. It means that even less gets completed around the house etc, but that is my life now. You like French Knots?! I hated doing them when I was cross stitching - your's are great. I now want to come and eat all of your baking. It must be nearly lunchtime. Ali x #30

  3. Wow, both the mandala and the embroidery are absolutely stunning! Love those little dots - I assume they are the French knots you were talking about. I always have to take dozens of photos of Oreo for just one of them to be OK, and I can't tell you how many times I ran for my camera, only to find that he had changed his position in the meantime! Good to hear the tooth has settled - maybe it's just growing like you said. Let's hope it stays put now!

Thanks so much for your encouraging comments on my blog. I take the classes because I want to learn from them, but I think I have to find the balance between trying to copy someone else's style and just sticking to what I already feel comfortable with. I think I need to use them more for inspiration and less for trying to achieve something, that may not be relevant to me. Hmm, so much to think about - or perhaps I'm just overthinking it, LOL! Happy WOYWW! Glad you were able to take part again this week!

  4. Oh my your blog is wonderful! Your embroidery is stunning as is your mandela. How did you draw that? Incredible! However, custard tarts, oh dear, I soooo miss my custard tarts.....I have never tried to bake them as hubby and son aren't too keen on them. I suppose eating a dozen would be considered piggish? Sticky toffee pavlova...never tried it but it looks elicious....will have to find the recipe! Happy WOYWW! Anne #7

  5. Sorry you haven't been feeling well; my asthma has been chronic these last two weeks and I have spent quite a few days resting in bed. That mandala is outstanding, I love the subtle tones and colours. You must be so patient to work on freestyle embroidery like that too. Happy WOYWW Sarah #37

  8. Hi Shoshi, love your stitch work, I am learning breton stitches from a local in the next village, starting to lose the plot as to what is lace making and what is tapestry and what is embroidery, I think I'll stick to mixed media textiles as a label!!!Dx #39

  10. Wow you've done a lot considering you haven't been feeling well! I hope you manage to rest up and feel better soon. Love the embroidery. I've been doing some cross stitch again but now that the floss is all sorted I'm being tempted to do some freehand embroidery. I've seen such lovely things on people's desks. Very inspiring.

  13. Hi Shoshi, to answer your question, favicon is that little picture you see next to your blog name on a tab in your browser. It's set to the Blogger logo by default, but you can change in Design/Layout/Favicon. You just have to upload a square photo and Blogger will automatically convert into into the right file.

  14. Love your new embroidery! Looking forward to seeing this project finished - it will be gorgeous!! Cats are certainly independent, just when you want them to do something they've been doing for the last 5 minutes, camera at the ready, they decide -nope. I'm done! Thanks for sharing, Lindart #46
