WOYWW 141

In case you are wondering, WOYWW stands for “What’s On Your Workdesk Wednesday?” and is an opportunity for us all to be mega-nosey and see what messes and other creativity are on our desks mid-week! It is organised by our lovely Julia and if you want to join in, please click the WOYWW logo in my sidebar.

I haven’t been around much since Christmas because I haven’t been well, and when I’ve been a bit better I’ve been trying to catch up with things I couldn’t do, and also trying to learn how to use Sheba, my new Cougar cutter.

I’m having a bit more success with her these days, and have been working on a few things – if you want to see the Valentine card I made for my hubby at the weekend, please click here.

Today I am working on an experimental project using silver mirror card and partially cutting out butterflies so that I can flip their wings up. I have done a separate post about this work in progress as it’s a fairly major project at the moment, using Sheba, my Cougar cutting machine, but I thought you’d like to see the state of my desk, covered as it is with mostly failed butterflies! Superficially they may look OK, but most of them have not cut properly, partly because Sheba wasn’t set up correctly, and partly because they are too small, and need the special detail blade to cut the very tiny pieces out.

If you want to see how this project turns out, please keep an eye on my blog.

At the back of my desk is my latest find – Scotch Quick-Dry adhesive – this has to be the best wet glue ever! It really does dry quickly and gives an excellent strong bond, and doesn’t ripple the paper like PVA sometimes does. Lucy, one of my friends on the Black Cat forum, recommended it.

Hope you all have a very happy WOYWW! Thank you Julia, for organising us all.

  1. I hear that while there is a definite learning curve for the Cougar that it can really do some marvelous things. Hope you get it all sorted out--looks like you've used it for a great project already!

  2. Wondered where you were but as I was away found it difficult to search you out. Sorry you have not been well but glad you are coming to terms with using Sheba.
That Valentine card is fantastic! Can't wait to see what you are going to do with the butterflies.
Don't forget to call in and check out my blog candy - it closes late tonight and I should be drawing tomorrow. Thanks for sharing. Hugs, Neet 29

  4. Sorry to hear you have not been well. Glad to see you back here. I find with those cutter machines you just have to persevere...I have gone through tons of paper trying to get things how I want them. Somehow I am always trying to make my eCraft and Silhouette jump through hoops I don't think they were designed for...

  19. Those butterflies are beautiful! After you've pressed the shape out, do you use the silver card with the cut-out shape for anything?? They're really effective, I know that!
Btw, your Valentine Card is THE best I have seen this year - I love the floating little hearts, that's clever :)

  22. I was thinking about Sheba this morning and wondering how the two of you were getting on. I haven't had the time to visit many desks the last 2 weeks, so I'm glad to have run across your update. It sounds like things are coming together. Cutting on metal is a great idea and it will be a cool project.

  23. Glad you're here gal, because it means you're feeling better...and that's v important. You're getting a grip on SHeba then!! I know you say they aren't right, but the butterflies do look very pretty on the mirror, so definitely worth persisting! And a fast dry wet glue....now THAT is a technology I consider worth waiting a lifetime for!!

  25. Do hope you are not going to throw your rejects away. You must be able to salvage them in some shape or form. Now I could have done with that glue a couple of weeks ago when I was making a journal book thatt just wouldn't glue together!. hugs Mrs A #165
