WOYWW 448

The start of another year! Where on earth did the last one go… Anyway, to see what Shoshi did, see my previous (very long!) post reviewing the past year. What a rollercoaster it was.

Anyway, what’s on my desk?

My Christmas present from my hubby! A complete set of Derwent Graphik Line Painter pens. Now I’ve just got to find the time and energy to use them.

It really is my ambition this year to get stuck back into art again. I’ve got so many ideas and things I want to play with. However, it will have to wait until after Mum’s memorial service because I’ve got a lot of work to do for that, finalising the details with my hubby and then designing and printing the service booklets. I’ve already made a start but there’s quite a bit to do still. Also, I need to knuckle down and practise my singing so that I am ready to sing “I know that my Redeemer liveth” at the service. I found a wonderful website where I could purchase it as digital sheet music, transposed down a tone so that I don’t have to struggle with top G-sharps! I have also downloaded their app which enables me to listen to it as well as read it, so I’ve now got the accompaniment in D-major to practise with. Then I’ve got to get together with the organist to practise for real.

My poor studio is a dust-gathering dumping ground. I need to do some major tidying before I can work in there.

I also need to finish my socks for the homeless.

I still have a load of letters to write about Mum, and post-Christmas, and I’m still looking after my hubby with his broken leg.

He went to the fracture clinic on Friday and they are happy with him. They will see him again in a month, when they will decide if it needs pinning after all, but it will probably heal OK on its own. So we’ve got at least another month of this, and after that, all being well, they will put some sort of walking plaster on it which will make him a bit more mobile, but it’s going to be ages before he’s driving again.

At last I have an appointment to see the surgeon about my parastomal hernia – I am seeing him on 11th Jan. I’ve been having a lot of trouble with it and can’t wait for a decision to get it fixed once and for all. This has been going on for far too long.

The kittens, now 7 months old, are getting so big, and they are very lively and naughty! It’s a nuisance not being able to let them have the run of the house because of all the visitors dropping in at all hours and we can’t risk the kittens escaping outside.

I love how they have their favourite little things to do. Ruby is much more of a baby than Lily and is more mischievous and playful, and she’s always rushing under the plastic sheet that the litter tray stands on – I think she likes the sound it makes! Lily never does this. Also, over the past couple of weeks, Ruby has discovered that it’s really fun to walk around the back of the wooden armchair – the difficult way!

She falls off sometimes but it doesn’t deter her. On this photo, you can see what I call her “dirty sock” – that little grey spot on her right sock! She’s such a funny little thing.

It appears that Lily has taken over Beatrice’s role as our resident Computer Queen. She’s always messing about on my hubby’s laptop, and the other day he found her watching a Youtube video she’d selected, entitled “Snipers Firefight with the Taliban.” Not exactly my personal viewing choice, but each to their own!!

Happy New Year, everyone! Let’s hope it’s a good one.

  1. Happy New Year Shoshi. I've been a bit here and there since the beginning of December - and so hadn't realised that your mum had died. I am sorry. Yes, I know that your times with her recently had been difficult - but I'm glad you are able to look back at good, positive, happy times with her in the past. Remembering them, and giving glory to God for them, will be so important. I trust the memorial service will go well. N sounds like he is getting there - all-be-it slowly. Glad, too, that you now have your hospital appointment. Trust it goes well, and the Dr agrees this needs properly sorting!
I wish you every blessing in 2018, as you walk into the year hand in hand with hubby and Jesus.
    Take care. God bless.

  2. Glad things are getting sorted in respect of the hernia, (hopefully) and the memorial service. You are so brave singing (not that I can hold a note) - I didn't even speak at my mum's. I did laugh at the vision of Lily watching youtube videos she'd selected!

  4. Happy WOYWW. I have got that set of pens. Only had a short go with them and did find that they tend to suddenly put out a 'blot' of paint unexpectedly - so more practice is needed (and perhaps look for tips online). Of course we all cope with what is thrown at us, but looking back it may be amazing that we did cope. I hope that you do get some time to just sit and do nothing, and that your health is sorted out sooner rather than later. My patience is definitely in less supply than it used to be - I blame my hormones as well as the constant pain/lack of sleep. I say no to a lot more things, but still feel guilty about that. I know that I can't do everything that I want/need to do. Ali x #9

  5. Hello Shoshi. Just wanted to wish you and your DH a Happy and Healthier New Year. I think I need to go back onto the 5-2 diet, I did it a couple of years ago, with all that has gone on I've been comfort eating. :-( I don't like myself very much at the moment and am not motivated to do anything much. I know others have greater crosses to bear and II must try and change things around. Had hoped to start the New Year with more exercise but my FM playing up at moment so not possible. Take care. 6. It's funny how all cat's have their own idiosyncrasies. There's a cat at my local Morrisons that likes to camp out at the entrance and just watch people go by. He must live in one of the houses nearby - it's not a stray cat - well fed and very friendly. Other cats don't normally do that - it's just a particular behaviour of this one cat, like the walking on the back of the chair by Ruby. I like how they all have their own personalities. Good luck with your music practice - I'm totally illiterate when it comes to music, so whatever you do will amaze me! Hope hubby's leg will heal properly so he doesn't need pins. I guess we all heal slower and harder as we age. What would have been a simple fracture in his 20's is proving to be more complicated now. Let's hope for the best! May 2018 bring you happiness and more time in your studio Shoshi! xx

  7. Happy New Year! No doubt that the time to create will come, it’s about the priorities right now though isn’t it! Glad that your DH isnt suffering, it’s hard enough without pain. Glad to read that you’re getting plenty of visitors, it would be a lonely recovery without them.

  8. Hi Shoshi. Happy New Year to you. I hope all goes well with your hospital appointment and with the service for your mother. I read your review of the year. I only started WOYWW in the summer, so haven't followed you all year. My goodness what a year you have had! No wonder you didn't quite keep up with everything you had planned. I hope you have a more restful year, and that your hubby slows down too, and you both have time to enjoy life. Have a peaceful week, Heather xx #11. Ps: the weight loss photos hardly look like the same woman! Well done with that.

  10. Hullo dear Shoshi... ah so much for prayer needed in your life, pray darling hubby’s leg heals with needing any surgery, please Lord, and also nought in harm to you will come as result of the op needed, ie all will stay well till its done! Praying also re settling things for darling mum...
Those pens looks so delicious too Shoshi, and your puss twins ... well they’re utterly cute, I don’t normally go for cats, but they’re just like Snooksy, our cat in colouring. Ours died while quite young, from a cattle tick. Ticks are problem to pets Downunder.
Thanks so much for your great desky share.
