Some More Florabunda Alphabet Letters

Yesterday I drew some more Florabunda alphabet letters, and have now done F to J. I noticed that the first few looked a bit sparse compared with later ones, so I added some more flowers to the backgrounds and re-scanned them, so they are now more of a piece.

Only 16 more to do and the alphabet will be complete! Here’s how it looks so far.

First Ten Letters

These will be nice to use on personalised cards, and now that they are scanned in, I can make them whatever size I want. I can also colour them if I want, but so far I quite like them in black and white.

Yesterday I made a leaflet which I want to show to the organisers of the cancer information centre at the hospital when I next visit. I am hoping they will allow me to run an informal group of say half a dozen people, so that I can teach them the basics of the Zentangle method of drawing. I do not profess to be a teacher and am not a Certified Zentangle Teacher (CZT) but in a small way, I think I could share what I know, and get people started on what is a most relaxing and fulfilling activity, which is very de-stressing, and could really help people to deal with their cancer/chemo a little better. I do hope they will agree to let me do this!

Leaflet for the Lodge

If they give me the go-ahead, I can adapt this leaflet and make it into a poster, with their contact number and details on it.

Health Update

I am now well into my second week of my final chemo cycle, and have been feeling pretty terrible for the past two or three days. This happened last time too, on the reduced dose – I thought I was getting away with it because I felt so good in week 1 compared with other cycles, and then it hit me big time in week 2! This time, it’s worse, and I’ve had symptoms I haven’t had since earlier on in my treatment – I felt a bit nauseous this morning but fortunately that passed before lunch because I took my pre-lunch anti-sickness meds. Also, the peripheral neuropathy was quite troublesome this morning, and again my hands seemed to seize up, but these symptoms are transitory, thank goodness. I suppose that I should expect this, because even with the reduced dose, the effects are cumulative. I’ve felt extremely wiped out again, not helped by the fact that for the past few nights I have slept very badly, and I had a sleep this afternoon. I’ve felt very weak and wobbly, and my balance is much worse than usual so I am having to be careful moving around the house. I am using my trolley rather than my crutches and that does help.

I know that this will pass, and that by the end of this week I should be feeling a lot better again! Knowing that feeling better is no longer a prelude to being cast down to the bottom again by another treatment is having a huge psychological benefit, and I can put up with anything in the knowledge that this is temporary, and that I am now at the beginning of the road back to being my “normal” self again!

  1. I'm sorry you're feeling so bad, Shoshi:( I hope it passes relatively quickly, and I'm happy that you are done with treatments. Your Zentangles are so awesome and it's fabulous that you would be willing to teach others to do that. I have yet to try them, although I am amazed and intrigued by yours. Love your alphabet, too!!!

  3. Your alphabet is beautiful, I'm looking forward to see the rest. I hope they give you a go-ahead to run a group for Zentangle. Running a learning group can be whole new dimension of happy exhaustion and I only see everyone coming out a winner, even those who don't keep up with it. I hope you recover quickly.

  4. Wow they are absolutely stunning, and you dont have to be certified to teach-in my eyes anyway- you certainly are what is called self taught and have the talent inbuilt. I would come to any classes you teach. Hopefully you are over the hump as they say with the chemo and that the worse is over....praying for you. Take care my dear friend

  5. I'm so glad you were able to squeeze in a little arting, Shoshi, despite feeling poorly. Not long to go now! The letters are beautiful and it's definitely the kind of art you can use digitally as well. They would make great digital stamps! Your zentangle class in the hospital is such a brilliant idea - the poster is superb - very eye catching! Thank you so much for your continued visits to my blog! I really appreciate it! I'll catch you again tomorrow at WOYWW if you're taking part.xx

  7. Thank you for visiting my WOYWW post Shoshi! To answer your question, I cut the stencils from Bazzil Basics textured cardstock. I've got loads of them from my scrapbooking days. It has a slight linen texture and perfect for cutting stencils. That's the only thing I use them for these days. Take it easy and have lots of rest over the weekend, so you can have your strength back! xx

  8. Thanks for the tip about the tyvek, Shoshi! I'll check it out - I'm always up for experimenting. I'm so glad to hear that you're feeling better. Hope you have a lovely weekend after your hospital visits are out of the way!

  10. Your alphabet letters are so beautiful - and it's great that you've been feeling able to do a little art. I hope you soon start feeling better. You really are an inspiration - that's a wonderful idea to help others to learn zentangling, I hope the hospital take you up on it, the benefits will be enormous to the patients, and I'm sure you'll gain an huge amount from it too. I get a lot of happiness and fulfillment from teaching. Thank you so much for your earlier visit - I'll look forward to seeing what you do with all your leaves. I've not long had a microwave flower press and I love it - it presses everything instantly and saves having to wait several weeks before doing those 'ideas' with whatever you've picked! Last night I pressed a load of Gingko leaves that my friend found for me - they have to be one of my favourite leaves!

  14. Thanks for visiting my WOYWW post, Shoshi! Those were my artist quality, very expensive Golden fluid acrylics used on the school project, LOL. Not the sea, though - that would have been the whole bottle gone! We only needed a little for the other bits. You have a good eye for colour if you you could tell they were special! I like that colour combo too. I wish art materials were a bit cheaper though. My hubby's got no idea how much these things cost- if he knew he would have a heart attack! So in the interest of his safety, I tell him everything cost about half of what they actually do. No need for him to get worked up about it, LOL! Sorry you're still not feeling 100%, but it's still early days - you'll have plenty of opportunities to make up for the lost time. I am frantically taking advantage of my free time now, knowing that at one point I'll have to find another job. Not until spring though! Have a good weekend doing what your body needs you to do in order to get your strength back.

Have they allowed you to have it displayed? Thank you for keeping us updated on your health. Although we have not met in person, I do like to know how you are getting on. Keep strong. Ali x
